The focus of my project was to find a correlation between the amount of annual rainfall and the soybean acreage. The data was taken from the US Geological Society and the Spatial Climate Analysis Service& Oregon State University from the National Atlas Website. The most interesting fact that I was looking at was to see if Lake Erie had an impact on the production. Having lived by the Lake all my life, I have come to expect hot summer and cold winters with lake effect snow. So with this concept in mind I wanted to see if it had an influence on the soybean acreage. Another side note is that behind our property is a farmer’s field and I remember some years where he would plant soybeans and others corn. Recently however it has been more corn than soybean and I was wondering the cause of this change.
The difficulties that arose from this project were challenging and often times demanded redoing that specific section and repetition. I personally struggled most with the charts and graph. I am so used to working with Excel that using another program was hard. I was use to one programs quirk and then had to change to another with all its quirks. I also felt overwhelmed with the information that was available to choose from. I could not make up my mind on the topic of this project and then selecting a specific issue, I would find one aspect interesting and another that was completely opposite.
