Purpose: Involve each student in taking apart a working device, examine the device to determine how it works, reassemble the device, suggest design improvements, and then present the results to the class.
In this project, my team and I took apart a standard hair dryer. We stayed organized through the entire process by tracing and labeling parts as we took them off of the appliance. As each part was removed, our group predicted its function. This made the presentation and reassembly simple and concise. We worked very well as a team and were able to actually correct the cool blast button as it had previously been replaced incorrectly.
My only weakness throughout this project was sharing the work load. I was engrossed in the task and really enjoyed the hands on application of engineering. It didn't help that my team allowed me to do so, however, the job was completed and done well.
