Gian Lorenzo Bernini

Gian Lorenzo Bernini was born in 1598 in Naples Italy. He was sculpting by an early age and is considered one of the most important sculptors to come form the Italian baroque period. He not only was a sculptor but also an architect and painter as well. Some of his more famous works include Apollo and Daphne, St. Theresa in Ecstasy, and Piazza St. Pietro.
            Bernini was well known for his art in the religious sphere and became friends with many people in the head of the Catholic Church. During the Counter Reformation he created many beautiful sculptures for the church.
