Second Campaign
Louis XIV, know for always reaching for the highest attainable goal; never satisfied with the status quo, always felt the need for Versailles to be even more spectacular. For the second campaign, Le Brun, who was the interior designer of Versailles , took a more involved role on the landscape architecture. It is unclear how Le Nôtre felt about this, but I believe it is safe to say he was not very pleased because for the third campaign he takes back control. The second campaign was simultaneous with the Envelope project on the Château from 1668 to 1678. This project was done because i n 1678, Louis XIV made Versailles the permanent residency of the court and more space was necessary to accommodate the court.
