Softball
has had such a profound impact on my life that I became interested in the
injuries
I
received over the years while playing and also how these injuries healed. The
aspect of how injuries are healed and how the muscles build back up is something
I would love to learn. I have talked to admissions offices of several graduate
schools to know the prerequisites, and all of the ones I am interested in (Virginia
Commonwealth University, Shenandoah University, and Duke University) told me
that if I majored in biology I would have all of the prerequisites needed to
attend their schools. In high school I worked as an athletic trainer's assistant
my senior year and know a lot about this field of work. My hopes are to major
in biology with a minor in Spanish and go on to graduate school to become an
athletic trainer for teams that travel across seas.
Last
summer I played softball for Sports Plus which is based in Midlothian, Va. We
played tournaments in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Florida, and California.
We placed first and second in many of these tournaments. The day before my team
left for California, I broke my ankle on my boyfriend's jet ski and did not
get to go to California with my team. In the spring, I will be fully recovered,
and ready to play first base for Sweet Briar College's new varsity softball
team. It will be the first year that they play varsity softball in the ODAC.
We have a whole new program with many new recruits who have excellent softball
experience. Even though this year will be a year to get ODAC experience under
our belts, in the next few years to come our team should be placing in the top
teams in the ODAC.
